UPPER WEST REGIONAL HEALTH DIRECTOR TALK ABOUT CSM

Good morning colleagues. I wish to use this opportunity on behalf of the Health Promotion Unit and Regional Health Directorate to thank you for the various SBCC activities that you have been carrying out in our communities on CSM education and others. It is always a refreshing day in and day out to see to hear of SBCC activities carried out to improve the health of our people. Kudos to you all especially those in the inner communities.
We are doing a lot together but we need to intensify our campaign against CSM in our region as the number of cases as well as deaths are increasing. We are pleading with you if you can kindly add the following key messages to what we have been doing in terms of public health education.

  1. Let us endeavor to educate the school teachers to suggest to children to always drink more water 💦 when they are at school and at home. Children should bring water 💦 on their own when coming to school. Where the school can provide water 🌊💦, they should make it available for the children.
  2. Children should be educated to get Shea butter or Vaseline pomade to moisturize the body as well as the nostrils and lips during this time of the year as the weather ☁️ is becoming more warmer leading to crack lips and nostrils. They can always use the Shea butter and Vaseline to oil in and out of the nostrils to keep them moisturized to prevent cracks which provides a fertile place for CSM to strike.
  3. They should use face masks to prevent the spread of diseases especially as the dry and warm weather promotes the cracking of lips 👄 nostrils. Adults are equally encouraged to use nose mask when moving out of the house and traveling particularly those of us riding bicycles and motorcycles as well as those traveling in buses and cars.
  4. Tell the teachers to limit the children for outdoor activities such as playing football, ampe, running around and others especially the second break when the weather is extremely warm and hot 🔥. They should endeavor not to be crowded.
  5. Tell children to report to the nearest health center when they experience the signs and symptoms of CSM such as stiff neck, severe 🗣️, cough 😷, sneezing 🤧, high body temperature 🤒, confusion, and body pains. They should not wait when they experience the following signs and symptoms. The above signs and symptoms mimic like Malaria 🦟, typhoid fever, COVID 19.
  6. They should always practice hand washing at all critical times.
  7. Let us encourage parents to critically observe their children as some of them will complain of headaches and body pains. They’ observed that after two or more days, they should send them to the health center for treatment.
  8. They should avoid self medication of children when they observe the signs and symptoms explained above.

KUORO BARECHEH NLOWIE BANINYE II SISALA WEST IS PROUD TO BRING DEVELOPMENT TO HIS PEOPLE

Kuoro Barecheh Nlowie Baninye II, Divisional Chief of Niator and Vice President of Buwa (Zini) Traditional Council in the Sissala West district is urging the government to construct motorable roads in the traditional area.

The appeal took place at Niator marking the silver jubilee celebration, since he was enskinned as the divisional chief of Niator in the Sissala West District of the Upper West Region.

The event was organized under the theme “Celebrating a Passionate Leader, Forging Unity and Development.”

The chief who is also the President of the United Traditional Rulers Association in Ghana emphasizes the vital need for improved road infrastructure to benefit the residents of the broader Sissala West district.

Kuoro Barecheh Nlowie Baninye II also expressed concern about the poor roads in the entire district, stating, “They should try to make sure our roads are tarred because, I would say, only the Sissala area has untarred roads in the whole of Ghana and the region. So, it is a pity if you want to travel on such roads, and I plead with the government to come to our aid and tar our roads.”

He further appealed to the government to complete the Day School Block project at Zini to enhance education in the traditional area and the entire district for the betterment of the people.

Highlighting achievements during his 25 years as chief, Kuoro Barecheh Nlowie Baninye II mentioned the establishment of peace and stability in the area, numerous developmental projects, and improved connectivity to the national grid in all communities within the traditional area. He also noted achievements in the health and agriculture sectors.

The chief emphasized his efforts to collaborate with friends and donors from the Diaspora for additional support and job opportunities for the people of Niator and the entire traditional council.

Despite challenges, he expressed gratitude to the people of Niator and fellow chiefs for their contributions to celebrating the 25 years Enskined.

Madam Aysha Batong Hor, the District Chief Executive for Sissala West, praised and congratulated the Chief and elders for their cooperation in reaching this milestone. She underscored the importance of the highly respected chieftaincy institution, affirming the government’s commitment to collaborating with traditional authorities for the development of the Sissala West district.

Acknowledging the road network challenges, she assured that the government is actively working on road rehabilitation and construction projects under the SOCO Projects policy.

Madam Aysha Batong Hor also appealed to the Chiefs and elders to engage with their children and youth to discourage extreme activities and prevent extremism within the various communities in the district.

The special guest of honor, Suke Kuoro, Dakui Yiriminoh Zimi III, expressed appreciation and congratulated Kuoro Barecheh Nlowie Baninye II for his 25 years Enskined. He encouraged the Chief to extend his leadership skills beyond Niator to the Danwan clan, the largest multi-ethnic clan in Northern Ghana, fostering peace with all parties to ensure celebration without suspicion during future opportunities.

The anniversary, chaired by the former PNC chairman Bernard Abataayele Mornah, attracted friends and relatives from the region and the Diaspora.

AFRICA PROSPERITY DIALOGUES-APD

This week marks the culmination of Africa Prosperity—an initiative that began a year ago, evolving from Ambition to Action under the guidance of the Africa Prosperity Network.
Following the success of the inaugural edition, the 2024 Dialogues shifted the focus to what I term PAT—
a.) Produce
b.) Add Value
c.) Trade

Join us from 25th – 27th January 2024 in transformative conversations at Africa Prosperity Dialogues 2024, where youth and women take center stage. I, along with other youth leaders from diverse sectors of Africa’s economy, will discuss how the youth can produce, add value to their products, and trade within a unified African market.

The focus is on empowering them to contribute to the realization of the AfCFTA single market. We will address critical issues related to trade barriers from the perspectives of the youth and collaboratively propose strategies to enhance youth-inclusive intra-African trade participation.

Special thanks to the National Youth Authority (NYA), AfCFTA Secretariat, and APN for making this possible.

ANCIENT MOQUES UNDER REN 19TH CENTURY UWR(WA DONDOLI)

DONDOLI ANCIENT MOQUES UNDER REN.

It was our great grandfather known as Karimafa who migrated from Mali to Wa built the mosque. It was claimed the mosque was used to be called Karimafa Mosque after the founder.[1][2] It was built in the 19th century. Most communities in the Northern part of Ghana are Muslim. In about the 10th century AD, Islam was said to enter Africa. It moved from Egypt to the Western and Southern parts along the gold trade routes.[3]

In Ghana, Islamic traders, Mande warriors and other missionaries used these trade routes. Sometimes these routes were marked by the incursions by the Berber Dynasty. This played a major role for the spread of Islam in that area. Mosques were constructed to serve as resting points for some of these Islamic traders.[3]
